BIOTERRORISM EDUCATION INITIATIVE TARGETS HOSPITALS & PHYSICIANS According to the testimony of Tara O'Toole, MD, MPH, Senior Fellow, Center for Civilian Biodefense Studies at John Hopkins University before the House Subcommittee on National Security, Veterans Affairs, and International Relations: The medical community must be brought into the planning and preparations for bioterrorism. In the event of a bioterrorist attack, local health resources - physicians, nurses, and the technicians and administrators who support them, will carry the weight of the response. Yet none of the preparedness programs now in place include any appreciable engagement of physicians or hospitals. In an effort to address this preparedness objective, Humanitarian Resource Institute recommends immediate hospital administrative staff and physician review of the U.S. Center for Disease Control: Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Network. ###
